

Despite the multiple stories, these two men were hung and or shot. The first two men named were Ernest Knox and Robert Edwards who were in the area at the time there are multiple different stories as to what happened, one was they were arrested and waited trail, another story is that Knox "supposedly" confessed to the crime, then place back in jail and hung. After that day several black men were named as suspects in the murder. The woman's name was Sleety Mae Crow, supposedly she had been raped and hit in the head multiple times with a rock. In the year of 1912 an 18-year-old White woman's body was found in a wooded area near Oscar Ville. After this letter was sent it attracted more negative views on the town causing violence to take place.

However, the Black children of Oscar Ville enrolled in school would be eligible. A letter was sent from a White Farmer to a local newspaper in the Cummings area, saying that it was a lot of white farmers whose children weren't enrolled in school, and they would be ineligible to vote. So, with this strong black town, and the hard workers who resided there, came jealousy. Most of the children of this town were enrolled in a locally funded school where they received their daily education.

Both men had Sunday service, where they collected tithes and offerings and even helped organize Sunday dinners, picnics or group outings. The preachers' names were Grant Smith and Levi Greenlee Jr. The preachers of the town made sure they took leadership in making sure all of the residents cametogether as family and also made sure everyone felt comfortable. Others worked as Laborers or worked in Cumming as craftsmen, per the Digital library Of Georgia. Around 109 Black residents paid the farm tax, meaning they rented or owned their farms. There were black homeowners, landowners, farmers, teachers, preaches, the population was around 1,100. Prior to 1912, this was a thriving town, where most of the people were freed slaves after fighting in the American Civil War. This city was called Oscar Ville, which was a small African American town in Forsyth County Georgia. The city still has buildings intact such as homes and churches, there are also trees, roadways, and also graveyards. Prior to Lake Lanier being built, under the depths of the raging waters, there is a city below the surface that sits. This sounds great an all, however there is a dark history to this location as well. It has attractions such as different fishing locations, beaches, golfing, snowboarding, hikes and trails, spas, different wedding venues, camping sites, hotels also water parks. By the government creating this lake, it is now a 38,000-acre recreational lake that attracts 10 million visitors annually. An also the Chattahoochee is a river flowing South from North Georgia along part of the boundary between Alabama and Georgia into the Apalachicola River. The reason behind the Lake's name, is because of the poem Song of The Chattahoochee, which was a musical poem where the words would flow very much like the river. Both were written around the late 1870's. He had a famous poem called "Corn" and Song of The Chattahoochee. Sidney Lanier is most famous for his experimental musical renderings of Georgia's Rivers, Fields, and Shores. The Lake received its name in honor of the late Sidney Lanier who was a famous musician, poet and author from Georgia.
